KwaZulu Natal offers the visitor a wonderful
mix of experiences – wildlife, wilderness,
cultural, historical, sporting activities and
relaxation. This region is the traditional
home of the Zulu people and visitors are able
to learn about their rich culture and fascinating
history. The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve
is one of the country’s largest wildlife
reserves, it was here that the white rhino
was brought back from the brink of extinction
- excellent game viewing opportunities exist.
Much of the coastline above Durban is almost
totally unexploited with miles and miles
of untouched beaches offering the best scuba
diving and fishing opportunities in country.
Some awesome golf courses have been developed
along this coastline making the area very
attractive to golfers. There is the highly
rated Zimbali course and Prince's Grant.
Durban is the province’s economic
capital, Africa’s busiest port and
the gateway to this spectacularly diverse
province. Durban is a melting pot of cultures
with a strong influence from British, Indian
and African inhabitants.
Drakensberg
The awesome Drakensberg Mountains, a breath-taking
escarpment with vertical drops of up to 800
meters, separate the interior of the country
from the coastal region. The region offers
a wide array of outdoor activities – hiking,
mountain biking, climbing, horse trails,
whitewater rafting (in season), fly fishing,
etc. The mountains houses 35% of Southern
Africa’s San rock-art dating back thousands
of years and unique flora all of which contributed
to The Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, becoming
a World Heritage Site (one of only 23 duel
sites worldwide).
