The Kruger National Park, Africa’s first
wildlife reserve, was established in 1898 to
protect the rapidly decreasing fauna. The national
park is South Africa’s largest, and is
unquestionably one of the best wildlife sanctuaries
in the world. This vast wilderness covers an
area of 19 633 sq km, equivalent in size to
Israel or Wales.
The Park is home to 147 species of mammal
(including all of the most prestigious African
mammals), 507 of birds, 336 of trees, 49
of fish, 34 of amphibian and 114 of reptile.
Many of the country’s most famous,
upmarket wildlife experiences are offered
on the private reserves are incorporated
in the Park. It is highly recommended that
international travellers with limited time
visit a private lodge that will provide them
with an awesome African wildlife experience
that will live with them for many years to
come.
