Botswana

Botswana is dominated by two main geographic features. About 85% of Botswana is comprised of the Kalahari Desert, a living desert which supports some of the largest herds of game on the continent. The second is the Okavango Delta which carries 95% of
Botswana’s ground water and is the world’s largest inland delta.

Okavango
Each summer, floods pour down into the Okavango River and flow on through a vast network of narrow waterways, lagoons and broad expanses of the Okavango Delta. The water makes its way through this huge, 10 000 square kilometres of flood plain and dissipates in the sands of the Kalahari. The Okavango Delta experience is totally unique and offers some of the most prolific and spectacular wilderness areas and game experiences in Africa, set in unparalleled scenic beauty.

The luxury of the camps and the sheer remoteness of the delta make it relatively expensive destination however it is a truly unique and unforgettable experience and highly recommended, time and budget allowing.

Chobe
Chobe is the second largest national park in Botswana. A major feature of Chobe National Park is its elephant population estimated at around 100 000 elephants. The Chobe elephant are migratory, making seasonal movements of up to 200 kilometres from the Chobe and Linyanti rivers, where they concentrate in the dry season, to the pans in the south-east of the park, to which they disperse in the rains. The Kalahari elephant has the distinction of being the largest in body size of all living elephants. Game-viewing is at its best during the dry season, when the majority of natural pans have dried up.

Makgadigadi Pans
The Makgadigadi is one of the most important wetland sites remaining in Africa. In the wet season, the Makgadigadi Pans fill with water which attracts huge flocks of Flamingos and other wading birds. The area is also the only place in Southern Africa where one is often able to see migration herds of tens of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra, followed by predators.
